Are you an avid Nightwish fan looking to make someone else an avid Nightwish fan? You’re going to need a proper playlist. A playlist that showcases the whole spectrum, from the heaviest to the most beautiful ballads. A playlist that neither bores them nor overwhelms them. Well, I have given it some thought, and here is that playlist.
- Last of the Wilds
- Come Cover Me
- Slaying the Dreamer
- 10th Man Down
- Master Passion Greed
- The Pharaoh Sails to Orion
- The Siren
- While Your Lips Are Still Red
- Slow, Love, Slow
- Sleeping Sun (Decades Version)
- Beauty of the Beast
Last of the Wilds is the one song that I have shown to many non-Nightwish fans, and they always make an exception for this. Therefore, it is the first on this playlist.
Come Cover Me is both a little heavy and symphonic. It’s not too much nor too little for the second track. It sounds like something you’d hear on the radio … if the west had taste.
Tutankhamen brings spice. It’s also the only song of its kind (Egyptian-themed). Really helps the not-letting-the-new-listener-get-bored.
Slaying the Dreamer commences the really heavy stuff. This song has two parts, with Tarja in the first half, and Marco taking over for the heavier second half. A perfect transition into the heavy part of this playlist.
10th Man Down is the song that got me hooked to Nightwish forever. Now that the new fish has adapted to the heavier waters, they are ready for this classic. It’s also a unique Nightwish song, like Tutankhamen.
Then we have Master Passion Greed, The Pharaoh Sails to Orion, and Tribal – the three heaviest that Nightwish has to offer. Make sure the new listener is still listening after these three, because things get softer after this.
While Your Lips Are Still Red is a Marco ballad. Beautiful and no operatic vocals.
Harvest is so different that the listener may not even believe it’s a Nightwish song. I mean, even many fans wondered if it was. It’s easy on the ears, and also no opera like the previous one.
Slow, Love, Slow is the only jazz song in the Nightwish canon. The listener may again wonder if this is still the same band that made Tribal. Yes, yes it is.
Then we close out with the band’s two greatest masterpieces, Sleeping Sun and Beauty of the Beast. While Sleeping Sun is pure ballad, the final song, Beauty of the Beast, is the longest on this playlist and mixes ALL the elements of the previous songs.
